Our services

At Star Genomics, we offer advanced genomic solutions to support genetic improvement and the sustainability of natural resources.

Re-Sequencing of Genomes

Genome re-sequencing is the starting point for the development of many genomic tools. It allows the direct identification of millions of SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms), which indicate the positions in the genome where differences are located between individuals of each population.

Development of SNP Panels

Depending on the desired goal to be achieved, we develop SNP panels tailored to each species and phenotypic characteristic of interest. The number of SNPs included in each panel is customizable, potentially including hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of SNPs. The selection of SNPs included in each panel is made based on the relevant phenotypic traits in each project.

Genotyping with Already Developed SNP Panels

We have several SNP panels already developed and available for immediate use, including panels for performing parentage testing in sheep, goats, pigs, and cattle. In addition to genotyping each animal, our service also includes performing the necessary analyses to determine the relationships and pedigree for each population.

Regarding the various phenotypic traits of interest, we have also developed other panels in sheep, goats, and pigs, focusing on phenotypes such as milk production and composition, reproductive traits, growth, meat quality, and wool characteristics. Our service includes genotyping and statistical analysis of the data to identify genetic markers associated with each phenotypic trait.

Analysis of Genomic and Statistical Data

Sequencing and genotyping technologies can generate significant volumes of data, the analysis of which is crucial for interpreting the complexity of the analysed genomes. Through the application of advanced statistical methods, we can identify genetic markers for specific traits, which can later be used as a tool for selecting individuals.

Genome Sequencing (de novo)

The development of genomic tools is facilitated by the availability of the reference genome sequence for each species, as is the case for the most relevant species in animal production. However, it is now possible to sequence the genome of species for which the reference genome is not yet available. Our services include outlining the best scientific approach to determine the genome sequence, including selecting the most suitable sequencing platform and the best strategy for genome annotation.
